How our growing guides are put together.

Each guide reflects widely accepted UK horticultural guidance: sowing windows tied to typical last-frost dates, spacing and days-to-maturity for common British varieties, and non-chemical approaches to common problems. Figures are typical values; your own timing depends on your region, aspect and the season. Where a decision matters (for example plant protection), we point readers to the RHS or a local garden centre rather than recommending specific products.
